Identification of the Competencies of Leaders in the Digital Transformation Environment

Abstract
Background & Purpose: The digital age has caused fundamental changes in people's desires and needs. Organizations, as one of the elements of the economic and social ecosystem, have undergone changes in the digital age. In order to respond to these expectations, organizations must put fundamental changes on their agenda. These fundamental developments can only be achieved through a digital transformation leadership approach. With this approach, the current research was conducted with the aim of identifying the competencies of leaders in the digital transformation environment.
Methodology: The current research was carried out under the category of developmental and applied research which is exploratory using the grounded theory method. The approach of the current research is of a qualitative type and was used through content analysis. The statistical population of this research includes experts in Allameh Tabatabai University in the field of information technology management. In this research, purposeful and snowball sampling methods were used, and the purpose of sampling was information saturation. For this purpose, experts were first selected using a targeted method. The validity of the interview results was checked by the acceptability criteria method through review by the interviewees and the possibility of confirmation by reviewing and reconfirming the results in the final stage. In order to measure the reliability of the interview questions, the method of retesting and questioning at two different times was used. Also, the reliability of interview coding method was calculated by the agreement percentage method in coding, and the results were 65.87%.
Findings: The findings of the research showed that five competencies including technical-specialized competence, intellectual competence, managerial competence, individual competence and digital organizational competence are necessary for digital leadership in order to solve various problems and issues in the field of organizational transformation.
Conclusion: In order to improve the competencies of leaders in the digital transformation environment, it is of utmost importance to focus on technical-specialist, intelligence, managerial, individual, and organizational competencies.
